Did you know
- Wärtsilä's heritage in transverse thrusters dates back to 1964 with the delivery of the first Lips transverse thruster. The company has been producing a standard family of controllable pitch (CT) and fixed pitch (FT) transverse thrusters since 1996.
- The Transverse Thruster (WTT series) is a key part of Wärtsilä's maneuvering solutions, complementing their steerable thrusters (such as the FS series and modular thrusters) and retractable thrusters (WST-R series). While steerable and retractable thrusters offer 360-degree thrust and are often used for main propulsion or dynamic positioning, the transverse thruster provides side force for enhanced maneuverability, particularly at low speeds, and for station keeping.
- The Wärtsilä Lips Transverse Thruster is chosen for its robust and reliable design, high efficiency, and maintenance-friendly features, leading to operational cost savings. It offers superior hydrodynamic performance for a high thrust-to-diameter ratio and is designed for maximum thrust within class requirements while minimizing tunnel diameter to reduce space and improve hull efficiency.
| Model | Power Range (kW) | Propeller Type | Key Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transverse Thruster (WTT series) | 400 - 5500 | Controllable Pitch (CP) or Fixed Pitch (FP) | Harbor maneuvering, station keeping, dynamic positioning (AUX/DP) |
| WTT-40 Transverse Thruster | 4000 | Controllable Pitch (CP) | Large cruise ships, offshore support/construction vessels (high power DP) |
| CT225 Transverse Thruster | Up to 3300 | Controllable Pitch (CP) | Maneuvering, dynamic positioning (e.g., RoRo vessels) |
| FT225 M-D Bow Thruster | 1200+ | Fixed Pitch (FP) | Bow maneuvering (e.g., OSVs) |
