- ABB has a long history of manufacturing electric motors, with over 140 years of experience. The M2000 series of AC induction motors, which includes the M2BA, was engineered for high power-to-weight ratio and efficiency at a 50°C ambient temperature. The M3000 range of motors was introduced around 2003, complying with the EU's eff1 efficiency class. In September 2025, ABB launched its IE5 ultra-premium efficiency motor range in India, initially for large-frame induction motors, and then expanded to mid-frame motors in January 2026.
- Within ABB's low voltage AC induction motor offerings, the M2000 series (including the M2BA) is positioned as a general performance motor, offering good efficiency (eff2 class) and broad applicability. The M3000 series is designed for process industries, offering higher efficiency (eff1 class) and customization for demanding environments. More recently, ABB has introduced IE5 and IE6 synchronous reluctance (SynRM) motors, which represent their ultra-premium and hyper-efficiency offerings, exceeding the efficiency of traditional induction motors.
