- The Alfa Laval PureSOx exhaust gas cleaning system first went to sea in 2009 with a hybrid system installed on the RoRo vessel DFDS Ficaria Seaways. It was officially launched in 2012, allowing vessels to meet SOx limits while continuing to use heavy fuel oil.
- The PureSOx platform has evolved to include various versions: PureSOx ECA for 0.1%S compliance in Emission Control Areas, PureSOx Global for 0.5%S global cap compliance, and PureSOx Flex for dual compliance. In 2020, Alfa Laval introduced PureSOx Express, a pre-fabricated open-loop module designed for smaller vessels, offering a more cost-efficient and simpler installation.
- PureSOx is chosen for its flexibility in achieving SOx compliance, offering open-loop, closed-loop, and hybrid configurations to match diverse sailing profiles and regulatory requirements. It is also recognized for its proven SOx removal efficiency of over 98% and up to 80% particulate matter reduction, allowing vessels to continue using more economical heavy fuel oil.
