- The Furuno FE-800 echo sounder was introduced around early 2015, building upon Furuno's extensive experience in developing echo sounders and underwater equipment over several decades.
- The FE-800 is a newer generation navigational echo sounder compared to its predecessor, the FE-700, offering enhanced display capabilities and improved interfacing options while maintaining compatibility with existing transducers and other below-deck equipment.
- This model is chosen for its compliance with IMO standards for SOLAS Convention ships, its dual-frequency operation (50/200 kHz) for versatile depth detection, and its ability to display depth information at both fore and aft positions simultaneously.
