Part of the ^QS Sailors registry — the Zulu Code maritime human-capital index.

What ^QSEA19721216 means

^QSEA19721216 is a Zulu Code person identifier, read one letter at a time. The leading ^Q places it in the Human Capital & Services system, and QS is the Sailors registry inside it: every seafarer and shore professional on Zulu Code sits under ^QS.

The third letter, E, is the country: Europe & UK. The fourth letter, A, is the rank: Captain. So ^QSEA is the node for every Captain from Europe & UK, and this page is one member of it.

The trailing digits 19721216 encode the holder's date of birth as YYYYMMDD — 16 Dec 1972 — which is what keeps every member of a rank node sorted by age and makes the code unique for one person. The full grammar is explained on the About page at zulucode.org/about.

About the Captain rank

The Captain (Master) holds overall command of the vessel and is accountable for the safety of the ship, her crew, cargo and the marine environment. Masters hold an STCW II/2 Master certificate of competency and are the owner's legal representative on board.

Sea-going ranks occupy the letters A to T of the ^QS registry; shore ranks such as Technical Superintendent and Purchase Manager sit at U to Z, so a career that moves from ship to office stays inside the same registry.

This is currently the only Captain code registered from Europe & UK on Zulu Code.

How verification works

A Zulu Code is a verifiable credential, not a public profile. Without the holder's 4-digit PIN this page shows only what the code itself encodes: registry, country, rank and the encoded date. With the PIN, the same page unlocks the holder's name, contact details, ZULU-verified rating and the ZULUCODE standard resume.

That is why ^QSEA19721216 is safe to print on a CV or a business card: a recruiter who has been given the PIN sees a verified record, and anyone else sees a code. The PIN can be changed by the holder at any time, which revokes every earlier link.
