- The Stamford AS440 Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) is a self-excited, analogue, 2-phase sensing unit that incorporates Surface Mount Technology (SMT) in its design. It is a genuine Newage product, a brand now associated with Cummins Generator Technologies and Stamford.
- The AS440 is a widely used self-excited AVR within the Stamford range, offered as an upgrade to the SX460 for UC22 and UC27 alternators, and supplied as standard with the HC4, HC5, S4, and S5 series. It is designed for self-excited, shunt-wound alternators and is not compatible with Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) excitation systems, for which models like the MX341 and MX321 are used.
- The AS440 is chosen for its accurate voltage regulation, maintaining output within +/- 1.0% under steady-state conditions, and its robust protection systems, including over-excitation and under-frequency protection. It also offers optional external voltage sensing for enhanced accuracy and the capability for parallel running with other similarly equipped generators through droop CT connection.
