- The HiMSEN H25/33 was part of the initial HiMSEN family of medium-speed, four-stroke engines, which Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) developed independently after a decade of research and development. The HiMSEN engine series was successfully launched into the market in 2001. The H25/33 design was a joint development with Rolls-Royce group's Bergen Diesel in Norway, with HHI later updating the design to suit its specific requirements.
- The H25/33 sits in the middle range of the HiMSEN diesel engine lineup, offering higher output than the H17/28 and H21/32 series, but less than the larger H32/40 and H46/60V engines. A V-type version, the H25/33V, was later introduced, providing a 13% higher output than the in-line H25/33 models.
- The H25/33 is chosen for its balance of high output and compact design, making it suitable for various marine and stationary applications. It is designed for fuel flexibility, capable of operating on residual fuel oil, distillate fuel oil, desulfurized fuel oil, and biofuel oil. The engine also features a modularized design for easier maintenance and complies with IMO Tier II NOx emission regulations.
