- Alfa Laval's heritage in centrifugal separation dates back to 1879 with the demonstration of the first continuous separator by founder Gustaf de Laval. The company, AB Separator, was established in 1883. The MAPX series itself is a later development, with models like the MAPX 309 being manufactured as early as 1990.
- The MAPX series are self-cleaning disc-stack centrifuges, offering continuous operation by automatically discharging accumulated solids. This positions them as a more advanced option compared to the MAB series, which are solid-retaining (manual-clean) centrifuges requiring manual removal of solids.
